Currently, approximately 124 universities, colleges, and school districts in the United States and Canada are affiliated with the Association, and any academic may apply for membership.

The initial three-years membership fee is $500. Thereafter, membership is renewed annually at $200 per year.

The number varies from term to term, but it's estimated that about 6,500 students enroll in NASILP-related academic programs each fall.

Yes. Grades and academic credit are based on the assessment of an "outside Examiner" for another institution. NASILP programs are virtually unique in providing external validation of students performance.

NASILP is administered by an Executive Director appointed by the eight-member Board of Directors and five Officers (President, Vice-President, Past-President, Secretary, Treasurer). The Association's day-to-day business is conducted through the Secretariat at The University of Arizona.

NASILP has received grant support for special projects from the U.S. Department of Education, the Japan Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation, and ARCO Corp. (Atlantic-Richfield).

Yes. Self-instructional language programs are limited to skills-level learning, typically encompassing four-to-six semesters of study. NASILP programs do not incorporate the study of literature, linguistics, or "culture" courses at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level.
